Trauma bond
What it means
A trauma bond is the paradoxical closeness you feel to someone who is hurting you — built by cycles of cruelty followed by warmth. Your nervous system learns to crave the relief of the 'good' phase, which is why leaving can feel like withdrawal, not freedom.
What it can look like
After a week of coldness they surprise you with flowers and a real-seeming apology. The relief is so strong you cry. Later that night you can't remember why you were so upset in the first place.
