DARVO
What it means
DARVO stands for Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. It’s a predictable move: when you raise a concern, they deny it, attack you for raising it, and then reframe themselves as the real victim.
Recognizing DARVO in the moment stops you spending the next hour apologizing for being upset.
What it can look like
You say, 'That comment about my weight hurt me.' They snap, 'I never said that. You're always picking fights. Do you have any idea how exhausting you are?' Ten minutes later you're comforting them.
