Enmeshment
What it means
Enmeshment is a family dynamic — often built by a narcissistic parent — where you're expected to share every feeling, choice, and loyalty with the family. Any move toward independence gets treated as betrayal. Adults raised in enmeshed families often feel guilt for having a private inner life at all.
What it can look like
You mention getting your own apartment. Your mother cries and says, 'After everything I've sacrificed, this is how you repay me?' You feel a wave of guilt for wanting a door of your own.
